Cross Cultural Education Project in Sri Lanka: January-July 2003

On the invitation of well-known Sri Lankan theologian-activist Fr Tissa Balasuriya during his visit to Australia last month, committee member Rachel Galea will be embarking on a 6 months joint ACMICA-Centre for Religion and Society, cross cultural theology project in Sri Lanka. For ACMICA, it will offer one of our member invaluable experiences working with students and graduates in a Centre embracing cross cultural theology. Rachel, an experienced qualified teacher, will also work in a Cross Cultural Education Project as an Assistant English teacher. This project facilitates community development through literacy teaching and learning for rural children.

This is a voluntary project and both ACMICA and the children Sri Lanka are very grateful that Rachel has generously decided to give up her time. We currently have an appeal out to fund this project so if you can help please read on.

The ACMICA appeal

ACMICA's international participation is supported by a combination of generous sources, including Pax Romana-ICMICA, Newtown Parish, the Columban Fathers (Fr Cyril Hally), Australian Volunteers International, PALMS, as well as personal contribution from the individual members themselves, but we are still desperately short of our budget for the work in Sri Lanka.

There will be 2 appeals: one for membership and donations (specifically for our anti-war campaign), and another for the Sri Lanka Appeal. The latter, more urgent appeal is tax deductible.

Sri Lanka appeal target: $5750.00.
Please support this worthy project by making a tax-deductible donation!
