ACMICA TO PARTICIPATE IN ASIA ADVOCACY WORKSHOP
IN BALI (MAY-JUNE)
ACMICA will participate in the International Catholic Movement for Intellectual and Cultural Affairs (ICMICA) Asia Advocacy Workshop on Human Rights and Sustainable Development in Bali this month, part of ICMICA's preparation process for the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD).
The Advocacy Workshop is organised to coincide with the fourth
and final session of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom 4)
meeting of WSSD from 27 May to 7 June 2002, in Bali, Indonesia.
The WSSD itself is a United Nations initiative on the occasion
of the 10th anniversary of the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit,
1992, to review the implementation of outcome of the Earth
Summit and to create a momentum to put sustainable development
into main global agenda in this new century.
At Bali representatives of ACMICA will be working towards
reactivating Australia's affiliation with ICMICA, to report
on the progress of Australia with respect to the implementation
of sustainable development, and to contribute critically towards
this very important summit.
ACMICA's participation at the Advocacy Workshop is the first
time in possibly three decades Australia will be represented
as a movement in ICMICA.
