MEDIA RELEASE
New Pentecost Forum 2007 - Details Announced
Date: 12/4/07
The third annual New Pentecost Forum will be held in Melbourne
and Sydney in late May and will coincide with the anniversary
of the 1967 referendum which recognised Aboriginal human rights,
organisers announced today.
This year's keynote speaker for the Forum - a partnership
of a dozen Christian institutions, religious orders and groups
- is Rev Dr Jojo Fung, a Malaysian Jesuit priest who ministers
to Malaysia's Orang Asli indigenous people.
In Sydney, Fr Fung will be joined by Sr Susan Connelly, a
Josephite Sister and well-known advocate for East Timor, Mr
Tony Kevin, a distinguished former Australian ambassador to
Poland and Cambodia and 2003 "International Whistleblower
of the Year", and respected Indigenous Christian leader
Mr Graeme Mundine.
"Reverend Fung's visit will have particular significance
as we reflect on Australia's social and political environment
since the 1967 referendum," organiser Minh Nguyen said.
"Our Forum will offer fresh perspectives on how people
of faith can help build a just and compassionate society and
world."
