Convenor > Minh Nguyen, BA, LLB, MA(IntRel)
Minh Nguyen is a social justice researcher. He specialises in international relations and human rights. The bulk of his research this year is on Australia’s refugee policy and regional human rights issues. He is also a keen artist and is working on a painting for the Archibald.

Treasurer > Stephen Leung, BCom, BEng(Hons), ASIA, CPA
Stephen Leung is a business analyst with Australia Post. He is also a Justice of the Peace and a qualified engineer. He is heavily involved in Catholic student and community groups and attributes his passion for social justice to these grassroots involvement. With his wife Anita Setiawan, he is the co-founder of CGC, the Sydney-based Asian Catholic graduate association.

Secretary > Trish Madigan OP, BA, BD, MPhil(Ecumenics)
Trish Madigan is a Dominican sister with pastoral experience in education and university chaplaincy. Since 1997 she has been at the forefront of many developments in interfaith relations in Sydney, especially those involving women. She is currently working with the Columban Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations and the Commission for Ecumenism, Broken Bay Diocese. She is a member of the Catholic Bishops Advisory Committee for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations.

Pastoral Animator > Peter Maher, BTh, CertLS, MEd
Peter Maher is a chaplain at the University of Technology, Sydney and Parish Priest at St Joseph’s Newtown, NSW. He is also Tertiary Chaplains Co-ordinator for the Archdiocese of Sydney and board member of Project Rachel Australia. Peter is the author of So You’ve Been asked to be a Sponsor (Parish Ministry Publications, 1989).

Member > Bruce Duncan, CSsR, BEc(Hons), PhD
Dr Bruce Duncan is a member of the Redemptorist Congregation. He lectures in history and social ethics at Yarra Theological Union in Melbourne, and is a consultant with Catholic Social Services Victoria. His publications include Crusade or Conspiracy? Catholics and the Anti-Communist Struggle in Australia (UNSW Press, 2001) and War on Iraq: Is it Just? (ACSJC, 2003).

Senior Adviser > Bill Neville, ED, BA, DipEd
Bill Neville is a former senior public servant with the NSW Ministry of Education. His distinguished career and contributions to the life and mission of the Church spanned an astonishing half a century. Among his contributions, he chaired the first National Conference of Australian Catholic Laity and was a co-founder and later editor of the ecumenical journal National Outlook until it ceased publication in 2001, after 21 years. He is an adviser and a former International President of Pax Romana-ICMICA.

Adviser and Regional Contact (Q'ld and Northern NSW) > Jenni Whelan, BA, LLB
Jenni Whelan is a solicitor specialising in human rights and anti-discrimination law for nearly 10 years. She has lectured in anti-discrimination law at the University of Western Sydney. She was involved in the St Vincent de Paul Society as a student and co-established a group called “Reflection and Action” while at University.

Former Member:

Rachel Galea, BEd(Hons)
Rachel Galea, former founding Secretary, is a school teacher at St Felix’s, Bankstown. Her honours thesis was on the meaning of social justice from various philosophical perspectives with signposts on ways social justice can be constructively pursued in indigenous communities. She is also a Director of the Australian Vietnamese Relief Organisation, a charity assisting school students in rural Viet Nam.
